PROGRAMS - PROJECTS - CAMPAIGNS

As part of the “Reduce, Reuse” barter initiative, UAE communities are encouraged to barter their old or used items that may be of value to someone else in their community instead of discarding them.
The UAE is a vibrant country with an ever-growing economy, with its beautiful beaches, opulent lifestyle and diverse culture, it has something for everyone. As with everything else in the world, living in or visiting the UAE has its challenges. For example, with an increase in population comes a greater strain on resources – both financial and environmental.
But what if we told you there was a way to make both financial and environmental sustainability attainable?

Enter Obodo – the revolutionary A.I-barter system that helps members of the UAE community, buy and sell goods without having to trade in cash!

WHY GO GREEN?

In 2006, the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) declared the United Arab Emirates the country with the largest ecological footprint per capita, largely due to its carbon emissions. As Dubai’s population skyrocketed and so did the number of cars on its roads, it became a conspicuous consumer among the seven emirates.

In turn, Dubai took great steps to remedy this and has continued to do so over a decade later.

In the decade since, the city has been dotted with gleaming driverless metro trains that run along the linear city, carrying about as many people as those cars on that 12-lane thoroughfare, and often faster thereby reducing congestion on the roads and emissions.

In addition, Dubai’s ‘Green Economy’ ambitions are fast turning the Emirate into an investment hub for foreign companies that have equally ambitious expansion plans. It is also proving to be the perfect ground for start-ups to explore business opportunities in the green energy space. Owing to Dubai’s strong focus on leading the green path, international investors are showing immense interest in projects supported by the Dubai Government. It is just a matter of time that Dubai’s green technology sector will witness one of the most rapid growth rates.

To this end, in the decade since, the city has been dotted with gleaming driverless metro trains that run along the linear city, carrying about as many people as those cars on that 12-lane thoroughfare, and often faster thereby reducing congestion on the roads and emissions.

Dubai has also established the Dubai Green Zone with an aim of attracting innovative alternate energy companies. Private joint stock company, Dubai Carbon is instrumental in enabling greener economy and transforming Dubai into the most sought-after destination for clean energy investors.

On this end, Dubai Government has poured in billions of dollars for new housing developments such as the Sustainable City, which recycles its water and waste, and produces more energy than it consumes with over 400 villas and 10 solar panels

In 2016, His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Future Foundation had launched Dubai Future Accelerators – a platform to facilitate partnerships between entrepreneurs, private sector organizations and government entities to work on pre-specified challenges, and to imagine, design and co-create the future. The initiative has helped find and elevate innovators such as Solavio Labs who designed a bot that increases the efficiency of solar panels.

Already in progress is Dubai’s giant solar power plant; the plant is cited to be a producer of some of the cleanest, cheapest electricity in the world.

OBODO'S GREEN AMBITION

We believe creating a green and sustainable environment for future generations is our social responsibility as an organization.
Our vested interest in Barter is because we believe that by facilitating the exchange of goods and services in communities, we will help reduce waste and consumption, as well as generate savings.

In our opinion, this is the key to financial and environmental sustainability.
Our Barter campaigns address the following areas of focus:
  • Recycling & Waste Management
  • Sustainability
